After Effects MCP servers compared
An After Effects MCP server is one of two kinds: hosted, which your AI client reaches by an address, or local, which you install and run on your own machine.
At a glance
Prism, Higgsfield and Filmit are hosted. Dakkshin and kumoproductions are the two open-source After Effects servers with the most GitHub stars, 727 and 106, with last commits on 1 April and 29 September 2026.
| Server | Runs | Setup | Works in | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prism (ours) | Hosted | One signed panel, one address | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and more | Free, or Pro $6 a month |
| Higgsfield | Hosted | An installer, then one address | Claude, and ChatGPT's desktop app | Credits; free sign-up gets starter credits |
| Filmit | Hosted | Filmit Studio app, then one address | Claude; ChatGPT not yet | Free with an account |
| Dakkshin | Local | Clone, build, script panel; Node.js 14+ | Desktop and terminal apps | Free, MIT licence |
| kumoproductions | Local | One command, no panel; Node.js 24+ | Desktop and terminal apps | Free, MIT licence |
After Effects versions, as each maker states them: Prism 2024 to 2026, Higgsfield 2025 and later, Filmit 2023 to 2025, Dakkshin 2022 and later, kumoproductions 2024 to 2026. All five run on macOS and Windows.
Hosted or local
| What changes | Hosted | Local |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | The maker's servers, plus a panel | Your computer, beside After Effects |
| claude.ai and other browser apps | Can reach it | Cannot reach it |
| Sign-in | An account, approved in your browser | None |
| Code and updates | Closed; the maker ships updates | MIT; you update it yourself |
A browser app connects from its maker's cloud, so it cannot reach a process on your computer (Anthropic). Local servers win on control: you can read and change the code, and they need no account and no company's service to keep running.
Which one to choose
- Prism if you use several AI clients, the browser included, and want a free plan.
- Higgsfield if you generate images and video in Higgsfield and want them in After Effects.
- Filmit if you use Claude and also cut in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve Studio.
- Dakkshin if you want MIT code to build on: two other servers started from it.
- kumoproductions if nothing may be installed inside After Effects: no panel, one command.
Why teams pick Prism
- Your AI client builds native layers, keyframes, expressions and text in the comp you have open, not a rendered clip (what Prism is).
- It works in claude.ai, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers and browser sign-in (compatibility).
- You sign in through your browser, with no API key, no Node.js and no build step (signing in).
- Free gives 100 MCP actions a month with no card; Pro is $6 a month or $60 a year, with unlimited MCP actions (pricing).
Common questions
The one your AI client can reach. In claude.ai or ChatGPT on the web, that means a hosted server: Prism, Higgsfield or Filmit. Claude desktop, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor reach both kinds, so choose by version, price and upkeep.
Yes. Prism Free gives 100 MCP actions a month with no card. Dakkshin and kumoproductions are free under the MIT licence, Filmit is free with an account, and Higgsfield's free sign-up gets starter credits.
All five, through Claude desktop or Claude Code. In claude.ai, add a hosted one, Prism, Higgsfield or Filmit, as a custom connector; Claude's Free plan allows one. Prism's steps: connect Claude to After Effects.
Hosted ones, on the right plan: OpenAI offers the write actions that build in a comp as a beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu. Prism has setup steps; Higgsfield names the desktop app; Filmit lists ChatGPT as next.
No. Adobe for Claude, Adobe's connector in Claude's directory, covers Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator and other Adobe apps, not After Effects. Adobe's AI Assistant runs in the After Effects beta app with Adobe's own AI, and is not an MCP server.
We also checked a-y-ibrahim, Engine Room, Flexile, ishu86, JUNKDOGE-JOE, Synthetic and TheLlamainator, and the related aftr, Atom, MotionAmigo, Plainly and Magnific, and kept this page to five.
How we checked
We read each maker's README or product, pricing and requirements pages, and GitHub for stars and last commits, on 11 October 2026. We did not install every server, so nothing here measures output; send corrections to support@oneprism.io. Product names belong to their owners, and none of them endorses this page.

Comparisons
After Effects MCP servers side by side, and Remotion and HyperFrames against After Effects with AI, each built from what its maker documents and linked to it.
Remotion and HyperFrames
Remotion and HyperFrames render code to a video file. After Effects keeps layers you can revise or hand off, and Prism, our MCP server, lets your AI build them.
