Remotion vs HyperFrames vs After Effects with AI
Remotion and HyperFrames turn code into a video file. After Effects with Prism, an MCP server, gives you layers and keyframes you can still edit, and your AI does the building.
At a glance
| Remotion | HyperFrames | After Effects + Prism | |
|---|---|---|---|
| You write or say | React code, or prompts | HTML and CSS, or prompts | Plain words in your AI client |
| You get | A video file | A video file | Layers and keyframes in your comp |
| To change it | Ask or edit, then re-render | Ask or edit, then re-render | Drag the keyframe, or ask |
| Best for | Many videos from one template | HTML, websites, open source | Work you revise or hand off |
| Cost | Free up to 3 people | Free; HeyGen bills hosted renders | US$22.99 monthly, plus Prism from $0 |
| AI apps | Coding agents: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor | Coding agents; Claude, ChatGPT in beta | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, other MCP clients |
Which one to choose
- Remotion if your team writes React and one template becomes many videos from data.
- HyperFrames if you or your agent write HTML, start from a website, or want Apache-2.0 open source.
- After Effects with Prism if the work gets revised, composited with footage or handed off.
Why After Effects with Prism
- Your AI client builds layers, keyframes and expressions in the comp you have open. Text stays text, you drag any keyframe in the graph editor, and the
.aep, or a.mogrtfor Premiere Pro, goes to the next editor. - It works from the AI client you already use, and Prism takes nothing for the model that drives it.
- Each request is one undo step, and nothing in the project depends on Prism afterwards: cancel and the work stays as it is.
- Prism Free is $0 with 100 MCP actions a month; Pro is $6 a month with unlimited MCP actions. One round of client revisions came to 61 actions. After Effects is US$22.99 monthly on Adobe's annual plan.
HyperFrames vs Remotion
| Remotion | HyperFrames | |
|---|---|---|
| Made by | Remotion AG | HeyGen |
| You write | React components | HTML, CSS and seekable animation |
| First release | 1.0, February 2021 | 0.1.0, March 2026 |
| Cloud rendering | Remotion Lambda, Vercel Sandbox, your server | HeyGen, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Run |
HeyGen's own guide calls Remotion "older and much more established", and HyperFrames "built for an AI agent to author".
Common questions
Yes, for individuals and teams of up to 3 people, commercial use included. Larger companies pay $25 per seat per month for each person who makes videos, or $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum for automation.
HyperFrames is HeyGen's open-source framework, first published in March 2026, that turns HTML, CSS and seekable animation into video with headless Chrome and FFmpeg. It is free under Apache-2.0, and its Studio app for Mac and Linux needs no code.
Yes. With Remotion's or HyperFrames' agent skills it writes code that renders to a video file. Connected to an MCP server for After Effects such as Prism, it builds layers and keyframes in your open comp.
Yes. Adobe's AI Assistant is in public beta inside it, announced 8 September 2026. Through an MCP server such as Prism, one of several, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor build layers in your open comp.
No. Code tools make template-shaped video at volume, and AI operates After Effects rather than replacing it. Remotion's founder said in May 2026 he uses After Effects himself, and HeyGen measured HyperFrames' motion blur against an After Effects export.
No, to start: you need it installed, not learned. You describe the piece, the agent builds it, and you never see code unless you ask. Knowing it pays off when you judge a frame or nudge a keyframe.
How we checked
Between 8 and 11 October 2026 we read each fact at the source linked below, Prism's own docs included, and built nothing side by side, so this page reports what each maker documents, not what we measured. After Effects and Premiere Pro are trademarks of Adobe Inc., no company named here reviewed this page, and corrections go to support@oneprism.io.
Try it in your own comp
Setup is five steps, once, on the Free plan with no card. Set up Prism free, then see what to ask in motion graphics with Claude.
