Change the font of all text layers in After Effects with AI

Yes, you can change the font of all text layers in After Effects with AI: name the font to ChatGPT, Claude or any MCP client connected to Prism, and every text layer across the project is switched to it.

Select all, open the Character panel, pick a font: that covers one comp. The project has forty. And the rule is rarely everything. The headings move to the new display face, the body stays, the legal line keeps its condensed weight. A rule like that is one sentence.

What you say, and what lands

You typeWhat changes in your project
"Change every text layer in this project to HelveticaNeue-Bold."Every text layer in every comp on the new font, with a count per comp
"Swap Montserrat for InterDisplay-SemiBold on any text over 60 px. Leave smaller text alone."Headings switched, body text untouched
"Only in comps named Hero_, change the font to PPEditorialNew-Regular."*The Hero comps switched, everything else as it was
"List every font used in this project and which comps use it."A table, no change. Missing fonts show up here first

Test it on your own project. A Free account is enough to start: Sign up, then connect your AI and ask for this.

How to do it

1
Find the PostScript name
Fonts are named without spaces: HelveticaNeue-Bold, not Helvetica Neue Bold. The Character panel shows it, or ask "what fonts are in this project" and read it from the list.
2
Say the font and the rule
"Everything to X" is the whole project. "Only headings", "only Hero_ comps", "only layers currently in Arial" narrows it.
3
Ask for the list first on a big project
"Show me what would change" returns comp, layer and current font. Nothing moves until you say so.
4
Check the line breaks
A wider face re-wraps. Ask for text to keep its line count or its box width and the size is adjusted to fit.
5
Undo if you need to
A font swap is an ordinary edit. Edit > Undo steps it back in After Effects as usual.

Rules that work

By comp nameonly comps named Hero_*
By layer nameonly layers named Title*
By current fonteverything in Arial to Inter-Regular

By position in the compthe top text layer in each lower third

Names without spaces

After Effects addresses fonts by their PostScript name. If a swap does nothing, the name is usually the reason: check it in the Character panel and give it exactly, weight included.

What it needs

After Effects2024, 2025 or 2026, macOS or Windows
AI clientany MCP client: ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and others
Plana Free account is enough; a font swap uses MCP actions, not Prism AI credits

What it does not do

It does not install a font. The typeface has to be on the machine, and a name After Effects cannot find is left as it was and reported. It does not convert outlined text back into type. A layer that mixes two fonts is switched whole unless you say which run to change.
