Bring your own AI

Connect any MCP-compatible AI client — Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf — to After Effects through Prism. AI actions are unlimited on Pro.

Prism does not ship its own chatbot or resell access to a model. Instead, it exposes After Effects to whatever AI client you already use. You bring the agent; Prism brings the bridge into your live composition.

The short version
Connect any MCP-compatible AI client — Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf, and more.
You bring the agent and keep your own model subscription; Prism never resells model access.
Because there is no provider bill to recover, AI actions are unlimited on Pro.
Only AI credits and JSON operations are metered — see usage and limits.

What "bring your own AI" means

Prism is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI clients to tools, so any client that speaks MCP can connect to it — that's what an MCP server for After Effects is.

You keep your existing subscription with your AI provider and your existing workflow. Prism adds one capability to that agent — the ability to read and write your live After Effects project, with the server holding all the logic.

Clients that work today

MCP is an open standard, so any MCP-compatible AI client works. The clients verified today are:

  • Claude (Desktop or web)
  • Cursor
  • ChatGPT
  • Windsurf

In each one you add a single MCP server entry holding your personal Prism MCP URL, and the full Prism toolset appears in that client. The exact place to paste the URL differs per client — see connect your AI client for the per-client config blocks.

One setup, any agent

You add a single MCP server entry per client and copy the URL the panel shows into it — one entry exposes the full toolset of 200+ tools across animation, layers, expressions, timeline, composition, and the audio, design, and motion translators. There is no separate plugin to install per AI app and no terminal step. For the step-by-step per-client config, see connect your AI client.

Why AI actions are unlimited

Most tools that bundle their own AI have to pay a model provider for every message, so they meter your usage to cover that cost. Prism does not bundle a model — you supply your own — so there is no provider bill for Prism to pass along. That is the whole reason AI actions are unlimited: there is nothing to recover.

The only metered capabilities are the ones where Prism itself does real work on your behalf — the AI credits wallet that pays for the generative tools, and the JSON pipeline. Everything the agent reads and writes directly in your comp is unlimited on Pro, which gives unlimited AI actions and unlimited JSON operations; Free includes 200 AI actions, 3 JSON operations, and 200 AI credits per month. For caps, fail-open behavior, and the per-action credit costs, see usage and limits.

What this changes for you

You are never locked into one client. If a new MCP client appears, or you prefer a different agent for a different task, Prism follows you — same license, same personal URL, same tools. Your model choice stays your decision, and your project files stay on your machine.
