Music

Generate original instrumental background music from a mood or style description and drop it on your timeline, scored to the piece.

Music generates an original instrumental track from a short description of the mood, genre, and instruments you want, then places it on your timeline at the playhead. Reach for it when a piece needs a score and you would rather describe the feel than dig through a stock library or leave After Effects to find a track.

The short version
Describe a mood, genre, or style and get an original instrumental track back.
The track lands on a new audio layer at the playhead, ready to time against your edit.
You choose the length, from a few seconds up to several minutes.
Costs 40 credits per minute of music generated.

How to use it

1
Open the Tools tab
In the Prism panel, switch to the Tools tab and find Music under the audio tools.
2
Describe the track
Enter a short prompt for the mood, genre, and instruments — for example, "warm lo-fi hip-hop, mellow, vinyl crackle." The more specific the feel, the closer the result.
3
Set the length
Choose how long the track should be. The default is 60 seconds, and you can request anywhere from 3 seconds up to 5 minutes.
4
Run it
Start the generation. When it finishes, the track is placed on your timeline at the playhead automatically.
5
Or ask your AI
You can also ask your connected AI for music in plain language, and it will run this tool and place the result the same way.

What you get

  • An original instrumental track. Every track is generated fresh from your description — there is no voice or lyrics, just music scored to the mood you asked for.
  • Placed on a new audio layer. The result is imported and added to your composition at the current playhead position, so nothing else in your project is changed or overwritten. Move or trim the layer like any other footage to fit your edit.
  • Your choice of length. The length you set drives the generated track. The default is 60 seconds; the minimum is 3 seconds and the maximum is 5 minutes.
  • Standard audio format. The track comes back as a normal audio file, so it behaves like any other imported sound in After Effects.

Notes and limits

  • A description is required — Music cannot run on an empty prompt. Include the mood, genre, and any key instruments to steer the result.
  • The panel must be connected so Prism can reach the server. If it is not, you will see a message asking you to check the connection — see troubleshooting.
  • Generation is server-side, so the work happens off your machine and the finished track is delivered back to the panel.
  • Music costs 40 credits per minute of audio generated, so the credit cost scales with the length you request. For plan caps and the full per-tool credit table, see usage and limits.
